ABOUT

Happy as a pig in....!

PigInk Press was founded in 2016 after I started exploring the wonderful world of inking and print making at evening class.  Now that I need to take myself more seriously I've rebranded myself as meself!

A bit about me...
I am in the early stages of my career as an artist-printmaker having moved from London to Brixham to pursue a simpler and more creative life after recovering from cancer. I started printmaking as a hobby, an antidote to the pressures of work, and got hooked! I have a background in inclusive design, architecture and garden / landscape design.

My inspiration and influences...
I am drawn to local industrial heritage and its detritus - the fishing industry, factories and tin mines. Then I discovered rocks!  The rugged beauty of Dartmoor and its tors and the SW coastline.  All have their own gritty monumental beauty and that beautiful, and sometimes brutal, landscape finds itself in my work.  This power of the landscape echoes my passion for Brutalist architecture (like Marmite, you either love it or hate it!).

As a keen sailor, open water swimmer and walker I love maps and charts. I am also obsessed by the weather, wind, tide and currents and all things watery! My recent work incorporates cartography as part of the place-making reference to ground the image to its literal location.

My work is an eclectic mix of processes and prints from acid etching and aquatints on metal plate to wood engraving and linocuts; the subject
matter often dictates the process. I am currently exploring how I transfer my printmaking and themes to also incorporate clay for more 3D and
textural qualities.
